Back to School—Here We Come!
September marks the official start of our school year, and it’s always one of our most exciting months! We kick things off with our beloved “All About Me” theme, a perfect way to help children feel seen, valued, and confident as they step into a new year of learning.
Throughout the month, the children explore who they are and what makes them unique. We dive into topics like skin colors and melanin, body parts, and our five senses, encouraging curiosity, self-awareness, and respect for one another. These lessons lay an important foundation for inclusion, empathy, and positive self-identity.
To celebrate the start of the year, each classroom creates self-portraits, which are proudly displayed so children can recognize themselves and their friends as part of their classroom community. This activity not only supports social-emotional development but also gives teachers a wonderful snapshot of each child’s creativity and fine motor skills at the beginning of the year.
September is also an important assessment month for us. We begin with ASQ screenings and preschool curriculum assessments, allowing our teachers to establish a strong baseline for each child. These observations help us thoughtfully plan individualized goals and ensure we’re meeting children where they are as we support their growth throughout the school year.
I might be slightly biased, but September really is such a fun and meaningful month! It’s chalk-full of enriching curriculum topics—and honestly, a lot to pack into just a few weeks—but our teachers work incredibly hard to touch on it all. From learning about their five senses and body parts, to discussing favorite things, hygiene, and how to care for their bodies, children are constantly engaged in hands-on, meaningful learning.
We even explore clothing—what we wear, why we wear it, and how to spot patterns and designs we might find on our clothes. These everyday connections make learning feel relevant and exciting for our students.
September sets the tone for the entire year, and we couldn’t ask for a better way to begin. We’re so excited for the growth, learning, and joyful moments ahead—here’s to an amazing school year! 🎒✨
